I may not be a veteran myself, but the military and the VA sure have made me feel like one. I’m grateful to have stumbled into this rewarding, challenging, and sometimes frustrating career. Over 20 years ago, I was an Air Force wife with a toddler at my knee and a baby on my hip. We had just PCS’d back to San Antonio after about a year in Phoenix and a few years after that in glamorous Clovis, New Mexico. (The kids’ pilot dad got to see the world while I served our country by holding down the fort at home.) I discovered that helping veterans fight the VA was perfect for me because I could keep my law license active without dressing up every day and commuting to and from an office. (Besides, I already knew a lot of military lingo.) Once the kids were in school, I put on a lawyer costume and worked semi-regular hours at a busy firm. About ten years later, I returned to a home office. I would meet with veterans and conduct business at restaurants, coffee shops, or VFW halls. One day, I met with a retired Navy veteran at a nearby pub. A year-and-a-half later, we were married there.

I’m honored to spend my days fighting for those who fought for us. In my spare time, I enjoy yoga, gardening, and flea market shopping. But not simultaneously.
